The “I can’t, I won’t” game

My Son

Our eight year-old blind son played the I can’t, I won’t game when he was getting his shoes on. He managed to get one on, but refused to get on the other. I told him I really didn’t care if he got them on. If he preferred to carry them instead, he could; so he carried them in his left hand all the way to the bus while he held his cane in his right hand. With he tried to go up the bus steps, he couldn’t grasp the railing and hold his shoe. After the first step, he put his cane under his chin, shoe in right, and walked up the steps holding the rail with his left hand. The bus driver, aide, and I burst out laughing—perfect picture for the cover of my next book. I wonder if I could ever recreate it.
