Poem, “Enjoy Your Pain”

Enjoy Your Pain

Go ahead, enjoy your pain

and celebrate the trophy

of another day of exercise.

I’d rather celebrate

a day’s exercise without pain.

My trophy—Nitro Xtreme.

Poem “Compelled”

Compelled by forces

of an unseen realm,

I hasten to open the door

and take passage

only to have a different door

pushed open wide,

and the music

of a hundred choirs

coming from that room

fills my soul,

and I am brought

to my knees in gratitude.

April 24, 2016

I felt compelled to get up to the Choir retirements today. Steve Everett was retiring; but with the kids involved in Prom Saturday, and me getting to bed so extremely late, I decided I couldn’t get up and go with Vance at 4:30. But when I woke up Sunday morning, I felt compelled to go. I parked in the Conference Center parking and hurried to the crosswalk between the Conference Center and Temple Square. As I waited for the light to change, I glance to my right and realized that I was standing next to JoAnn Ottley who was with Jerry. We had a nice short conversation before I bee-lined to the restrooms on the far South West corner of Temple Square. Entering the Tabernacle on the South side, I spied the front row of the back section mostly empty, so I went and sat down and started talking to the sister on my right. When I turned to see who had sat down to my left, I was rather surprized to see JoAnn Ottley right next to me again. We enjoyed many moments of delightful conversation during the following two hours. JoAnn suffers from blindness because of glaucoma. She’s inspired me to make audio recordings of my poetry so I can share them with her and others who are blind. She told me that I had profoundly touched her. Well, it was totally orchestrated by the Lord. Afterward, I spent time talking to Vance, looking for Steve, taking pictures, and talking to others, then finally ran to the restroom before heading back over to the Conference Center. As I stood at the crosswalk, waiting for the light to change, I once again found myself standing right behind the Ottleys. Three times—what’s the chance of that happening? Absolutely no coincidence I am positive! I know I had felt compelled to get up there for the Ottleys.

Poem “Without God”

Without God

Attempting to teach

inner-power, and limitlessness

without dependence

upon God

is to tell everyone,

Breathe carbon monoxide

and you’ll be OK.”

Poem “Power of Creation”

Power of Creation

Power of creation–

electricity and thoughts

are the invisible force

which ignite the action.

Quit flipping the switch

and let it flow.

Poem “Cauldron of Fear”

Cauldron of Fear

Child of light,

sitting in the cauldron

of fear, darkness,

and despair,

your sweetness makes it

more palatable.

Salt makes it survivable.

The Atonement

lowers the ladder

for your escape.

Poem, “I’m Getting Out”

I’m Getting Out

My husband’s having an affair

and it’s not with me.

His name and mine

may be written

on our marriage certificate,

but, in reality, he’s married

to his alcohol.

Sorry, there’s only room

for two in this house;

I’m getting out.

Poem “Some People”

Some People

Some people

accidentally fall

into business;

others walk there.

However you landed,

you’re not going far

unless you work

your way there.

Couch potatoes

belong in the garden.

Poem “Send Not The Reapers”

Send Not The Reapers

Send not the reapers,

for the seed is yet being sown.

Have ye no more sowers?

Thrash not the wheat

until the harvest.

Poem, “Truth Lingers”

Truth Lingers

Where truth and Spirit meet,

truth lingers,

and I pause for reflection

again and again

as light penetrates each moment

with gentle acquiescence

within my soul.

Pondering time (and the atonement) as a sphere, instead of a straight line as suggested by Amber McDonald.
